Gullfoss Gibson Cocktail Recipe

image

The Gullfoss Gibson, the second signature cocktail for A Taste of Iceland in Denver, was the stronger option of the two. Noah rated it a sophomore/junior in terms of drinking level, whereas he gave the Midnight Sun a freshman rating.

Recipe:

  • 2 parts lemon peel, angelica root, juniper berry and orange peel-infused Reyka Vodka
  • 1 part Dolan Blanc French Vermouth
  • 2 dashes of Regan’s orange bitters.

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir with ice until properly chilled. Strain into a coupe and garnish with house pickled cocktail onion.

Midnight Sun Cocktail Recipe

image

The Midnight Sun cocktail was delicious and beautifully presented. Resembling a gray day in Iceland, complete with an iceberg in the middle and a blood orange sun, the drink went down smoothly and was extremely popular.

Recipe:

  • 1.5 parts thyme-infused Reyka Vodka
  • 1 part Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur
  • ½ part fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ part Rothman and Winter Crème de Violette
  • 3 drops of house-made Rhubarb Bitters

Shake hard with ice and double strain over a large ice cube in an old fashioned glass. Garnish with blood orange slice dusted in dried lavender.

A Taste of Iceland in Denver: Cocktail Class

This year marked the first-ever cocktail class at A Taste of Iceland, and boy was it popular! Mixologist Noah Heaney of Coohills Restaurant graciously hosted three free classes over the course of the weekend, teaching participants how to make the Icelandic menu’s signature cocktails, describing the history of mixology, and of course, sampling Reyka Vodka.

Reyka Vodka is made in Iceland through a unique process that includes using a carterhead still and lava rock filtration. The weekend’s signature drinks both featured Reyka Vodka. Check out our photos to see the recipes!

In addition to showing participants how to make these cocktails (and giving everyone one of each, compliments of Coohills), Noah answered dozens of questions about spirits and gave out several tips on mixology.

A special thank you to Reyka Vodka and Coohills Restaurant for making the first-ever cocktail class at A Taste of Iceland an extremely successful event!
